BERLIN: FilmNation selling ALL IS LOST from writer/director J.C. Chandor

Academy Award® Winner Robert Redford (Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Sting, Spy Game) is in final negotiations to star in ALL IS LOST for director and writer J.C. Chandor. Chandor made his debut in 2011 at the Sundance Film Festival with the critically acclaimed feature MARGIN CALL and was recently nominated for an Academy Award® for the film’s original screenplay. FilmNation Entertainment will handle international sales for ALL IS LOST beginning at EFM in Berlin. Lionsgate will release the film in the U.S.

ALL IS LOST follows the exhilarating journey of one man fighting to survive. The story is set entirely at sea and has just one cast member.

MARGIN CALL’s Neal Dodson will produce under the Before The Door Pictures banner alongside Teddy Schwarzman through his Black Bear Pictures shingle and Justin Nappi from Treehouse Pictures, who are fully financing the project. Before The Door will be producing with Anna Gerb and Joshua Blum from Washington Square Films, who were their partners on MARGIN CALL. Before The Door’s Zachary Quinto and Corey Moosa, Cassian Elwes, Laura Rister, and Treehouse’s Kevin Turen will executive produce.

"We had a charmed experience on MARGIN CALL with J.C. and are thrilled to be taking our relationship with him to the next level on his audacious sophomore film," said producer Neal Dodson.

ALL IS LOST is set to begin shooting this summer at Baja Studios in Rosarita Beach, Mexico, which was built by Fox for TITANIC and has since housed MASTER & COMMANDER and PEARL HARBOR.

FilmNation Entertainment’s Glen Basner said, “"MARGIN CALL was a brilliant debut for J.C., who was the talk of Sundance when he emerged last year. The combination of an exciting, new filmmaker and iconic actor like Robert Redford will be a collaboration that audiences around the world will take note of."

Elwes and Rister negotiated the financing deals on behalf of the film, along with Alexis Garcia from WME. Redford is repped by lawyer Barry Tyerman and CAA, while Chandor is repped by Rob Carlson and Simon Faber at WME.

Before The Door is currently in post-production on both Victor Quinaz’s comedy, TWV PROJECT and a 3-D horror film called THE BANSHEE CHAPTER. They are developing IMPERIAL PALACE with producer Christine Vachon as well as other film, new media, and television projects. BTD publishes graphic novels through a partnership with Archaia, including MR MURDER IS DEAD and Michael McMillian’s LUCID, which recently sold to a major film studio.

Treehouse Pictures and Black Bear Pictures are currently in post-production on Ramin Bahrani's latest and currently untitled film. Treehouse recently sold ARBITRAGE starring Richard Gere, which Lionsgate acquired in Sundance and is in production on Adult World. Black Bear Pictures recently wrapped BROKEN CITY, starring Mark Wahlberg, Russell Crowe and Catherine Zeta-Jones; starts production March 12th on A.C.O.D., starring an ensemble cast including Adam Scott and Richard Jenkins; and is developing with Jeremy Renner, KING OF HEISTS based on the bestselling book by J. North Conway.

FilmNation Entertainment is handling international sales for the following titles: A Most Wanted Man to be directed by Anton Corbijn; The Comedian starring Robert De Niro and Kristen Wiig, to be directed by Sean Penn; Terrence Malick’s next three projects: an untitled love story starring Ben Affleck, Javier Bardem, and Rachel McAdams; Lawless starring Ryan Gosling, Christian Bale, Natalie Portman, Cate Blanchett, Rooney Mara and Haley Bennett; and Knight of Cups starring Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, Natalie Portman and Isabel Lucas; Relativity Media’s Mirror Mirror with Lily Collins and Julia Roberts; Oren Peli’s untitled project; Zhang Yimou’s epic The Flowers of War starring Christian Bale; Steven Soderbergh’s Magic Mike starring Channing Tatum, Alex Pettyfer, and Matthew McConaughey; Under the Skin with Scarlett Johannson; and Midnight’s Children directed by Deepa Mehta and based on the novel by Salman Rushdie.
